What is Dyslexia?
There are very many different definitions of dyslexia. One of the difficulties in defining it is that not all dyslexic individuals exhibit exactly the same range of symptoms. Put very simply, dyslexia is a persistent difficulty with word reading and/ or spelling. Fluency and accuracy develops very incompletely or with great difficulty.
There has been much research into dyslexia offering a variety of definitions. However, each person is an individual and will experience dyslexia in different ways. The only way to determine a learner’s particular experience is to undergo an assessment.
The British Dyslexia association provides a detailed list of indicators of dyslexia at different ages.
